APR 00] COVENTRY CRUSADERS PRESS RELEASE
Big Rob's Coming HomeRobert Clarke will be back in the Coventry Crusaders line up next season
after spending a year in the USA.
Robert, who started playing basketball
with the Coventry side and featured in all levels at the club, from Cadet,
Junior and the Senior Men's team, left to study a Physical Education Degree
and represent Rocky Mountain College in Montana, in a 5 year scholarship
deal.
Midway through the first term, Robert received notification that his
previous academic qualifications, received whilst studying at Tile Hill
College in Coventry, would reduce his eligibility to play there by 2 years.
Robert has spent the last year adjusting to the pace and standard of play
expected and has made good progress, but would not be expected to play ahead
of the two Senior players next year.
The decision has therefore been taken to come home for one year and not waste another year of eligibility.
The 19 year old likeable 7ft 280lb Centre, who took up the sport less than 5 years ago and
has represented England at under 18 level, said:
"The move will enable me to make improvements in my game and return a
stronger player."
Bupa Crusaders Coach Dip Donaldson has been given the responsibility by
Coach Garry Matlock, from Rocky Mountain College, of monitoring Clarke's
progress and improvement.
Donaldson said:
"I am really looking forward to having Robert and his dad
around next season, it's a double bonus!!! We will look forward to Robert's
return.
"I am sure the progress he's made will help us next season. With
Matt Donaldson's departure we need another big body to play inside. Robert
will definitely be an asset to our club."
