Nilsson Prepares
Roland Nilsson takes charge of
his first league game tomorrow when Coventry take on Sheffield
United at Bramall Lane.
The
Swede has quickly had to adapt to being player, manager and
coach in a week which has seen Gordon Strachan, Garry Pendrey
and Jim Blyth shown the exit door and the Sky Blues pick up a
much needed win in the Worthington Cup at Peterborough.
And Nilsson already looks like a
man who will be doing things his own way. Ivan Guerrero will
make his first start of the season against the Blades tomorrow
in place of Barry Quinn on the left hand side of City’s
midfield.
Keith O’Neill, John Eustace and
Youssef Chippo are all missing from the team which has left
Coventry’s incoming boss short of options in the middle of the
park, but Guerrero’s performances in pre-season have earned
him a place in the starting line up.
Nilsson
said:
“I have decided to make one
change and that will mean Ivan coming in for Barry Quinn on
the left.
“He did very well for us in
pre-season and he is a natural left footed player who enjoys
getting up and down the wing, which is what we will need in a
game like this.
“I know from experience when
you go to Bramall Lane that it is always a tough game and they
are a physical side. We have to go out and match them and when
we get the ball we cannot afford to give it away too
easily.”
Nilsson’s fellow Swede Magnus
Hedman will keep his place in goal, despite two mistakes in the
past week leading to goals for City’s opponents.
And Gary Breen will continue as
skipper in the absence of Eustace, who missed Tuesday’s cup
win through injury.
