A sparse crowd saw a rare event at Highfield Road as Coventry City won their first game in 2001 against a novice Pakistan side.

With the exception of the goalkeeper, the visiting side weren’t up to much, and the Sky Blues coasted through.

But saying this, they only managed two goals. Bury beat Pakistan 3-0 last week in what was the Asian side’s first game since last April.

David Thompson scored in the first half from a pass by John Eustace, and John Aloisi scored in the second half.

It was a mixed weekend for the Coventry City players on international duty. Magnus Hedman kept a clean sheet for Sweden against Macedonia and Gary Breen ‘s Ireland had some shaky moments but outclassed Cyprus 4-0.

John Hartson scored twice for Wales against Armenia, only to see the home side draw level, while Morocco beat Tunisia 2-0 to take a commanding lead in their qualifying group.
