Carsley Signs And More Could Follow
Blackburn
midfielder Lee Carsley has finally signed for the Sky Blues
after months of speculation, and another Honduran and Moroccan
could be on their way.
Carsley,
aged 26, has been touted as the ideal replacement for Gary
McAllister by boss Gordon Strachan.
At
a press conference today it was revealed that he has signed a
four-and-a-half year deal. The transfer free is thought to be
around £2.5 million.
Strachan
said:
"I
made my mind up that I wanted Lee here early in the year when
I knew that Gary McAllister was leaving.
"It
has taken a long time and it has been down to perseverance - I
have checked on his availability every two weeks.
Carsley
will not make his Coventry debut at Bradford on Saturday because
of "personal reasons".
The
Republic of Ireland international said he spoke with other Eire
player Gary Breen and Robbie Keane before deciding to make the
move.
Last
season he was Blackburn’s top scorer, but has fallen out of
favour with manager Graeme Souness.
He
said he was keen to get back into the premiership, and initially
handed in a transfer request in august before later withdrawing
it.
Meanwhile
Honduran player Samuel Caballero is expected to come to Coventry
next week to join join Ivan Guerrero and Jairo Martinez at
Highfield Road.
And
a young Moroccan player could also be coming to Coventry in the
summer. Youssef Safri is hotly tipped by Moustapha Hadji, and
the Sky Blues have an option to buy him after Morocco have
completed a large amount of international fixtures.
