Kirkland Could Go To The Top Says Big Ron
Former
Sky Blues boss Ron Atkinson has tipped Chris Kirkland for the
very top, and says he could have even better prospects than
Leeds sensation Paul Robinson.
Kirkland,
thrust into the limelight this season, has impressed the TV
pundit, and he has picked him out a potential England number
one.
Following
months of anguish that England have no goalkeeping stars of the
future to look forward to, Big Ron said in his Guardian column
that Kirkland could go all the way and follow Robinson – Nigel
Martyn’s replacement – into the England squad.
There
was no place for Kirkland in the England under-21 squad though,
with Arsenal fourth choice Stuart Taylor being preferred.
Kirkland
might have longer to impress than was originally planned, as
Magnus Hedman could need an operation on his injured knee.
The
Sky Blues’ wounded list is shortening, however, with Craig
Bellamy and Cedric Roussel both recovering from a hamstring and
back injury respectively.
Coventry
City are rumoured to be tracking another Honduran player to add
to the squad.
But
this contradicts Bryan Richardson’s statement earlier in the
season that another player from outside the EU would not be
signed as the club already has its quota of five non-EU players.
