Everton Gazump Coventry Over Defender
Coventry
City have been pipped at the post in the race to sign Hearts
defender Gary Naysmith.
The
club delayed in making a firm formal offer for the left-back,
but were reported to be lining up a £1.5million bid.
However,
this prompted Everton to leap into the market, and they have now
secured Naysmith’s Services for £1.7m.
Hearts
manager Jim Jeffries said:
"Coventry
made an enquiry several days ago and we spoke over the phone a
few times.
"We
asked them to put it in writing and we would write back if it
was acceptable.
"Prior
to them doing that Everton made a bid which was an improved
offer on Coventry's and therefore, because the Coventry bid
was not accepted in writing, he was available to anybody.
"So
we agreed a deal and Gary will be on his way down to discuss
terms with Everton."
Meanwhile
Scotland skipper and Sky Blues substitute Colin Hendry has been
advised to leave Highfield Road for the sake of his
international career.
Scotland
boss Craig Brown has told the 34-year-old that he needs to be
playing regular first team football to keep sharp, and to move
on if he cannot get in the Coventry team.
