Keepers Young And Old Honoured
Coventry
City goalkeepers young and old have received honours at
different ends of their careers.
Current
reserve keeper Chris Kirkland has been called up into the
England under-21 squad for the forthcoming ties against Germany
and Finland.
Promising
midfielder John Eustace has also been placed on standby for the
team in case anyone pulls out though injury.
And
veteran Steve Ogrizovic was given an honour for his services to
football at the Midlands Football Writers’ Association award.
He
was presented with the Carling No 1 award, following in the
footsteps of other recipients such as Peter Shilton and Sir
Stanley Matthews.
Other
Sky Blues players in action this weekend for their countries
include Colin Hendry, who has retained his place in the Scotland
squad, despite failing to secure a place in the Coventry team.
Gary
Breen is expected to remain at the centre of defence for the
Republic of Ireland in games against Portugal and Estonia, while
Barry Quinn will appear for the under-21 side.
But
Wales will have to do without Craig Bellamy, who is suspended
after missing games against Norway and Poland following his
sending off against Belarus last month.
