Every Picture Tells A Sky Blue Story
Snapshots
chronicling the Sky Blues through the ages have been put
together for a new book which is being published later this
year.
Club
historian Jim Brown has collected hundreds of shots detailing
the rise of Coventry City from works team to Premiership side.
The
illustrated history will feature around 300 pictures from all
the different eras of the club, which was formed in 1883.
As
well as all the favourite players from different teams, there
are glimpses of the way the game in general has changed.
Jim,
who produces the club’s official statistics and also records
matches for CWN, said one particular favourite dates back to the
1930s.
It
features all the players from the time around a horse called
Ginger.
Ginger
was used to pull a mower or roller around the pitch in the days
before the club has a motorised tractor.
Jim
said the book, which will be available in November, is a visual
accompaniment to an earlier volume detailing every match the
club has ever played.
He
said:
“I’ve
been keeping records for years and I worked back through the
newspaper library at Colindale to get details of the older
games.
“There
was some difficulty in 1980 when there was a newspaper strike,
but I got all the records eventually.
”Over
the years a number of pictures have come into my possession
and I thought it would be nice to use them.
“It’s
a labour of love -
I don’t make any money from it. I hope to sell several
thousand copies.”
People
who want their name in a numbered copy of the book, printed at
the back alongside the name of their favourite player, can do so
by subscribing.
The
book costs £16.99 and subscribers will be sent their copy in
the post free of charge if they live in the United Kingdom.
