McSheffrey Injuries Adds To Striking Woes
Coventry
City have failed in an audacious bid to sign Southampton striker
Marian Pahars, while their striking crisis has deepened with an
injury to teenage star Gary McSheffrey.
Saints
boss Glenn Hoddle has admitted that Coventry enquired about
signing Pahars, who scored 16 goals last season.
Hoddle
told Teamtalk:
''Coventry
did get in touch about Marian but the conversation lasted
about 30 seconds and that was the end of it.''
Pahars,
aged 23, recently signed a new four-year extension to his
contract and has settled in Southampton.
Meanwhile,
the Sky Blues have suffered another injury blow, with youngster
Gary McSheffrey being ruled out for several weeks with a back
injury.
Two
years ago he became the youngest Coventry player when he
appeared as a sub.
Recently
he was selected for the England under-18 side for a game against
Israel, but now has had to withdraw.
He
has had treatment for a hip injury, but has now been diagnosed
with a hairline fracture of his back.
