Kanchelskis Next On The Menu
Coventry
City has been linked with another Rangers winger – this time
it’s Andrei Kanchelskis.
Reports
from Russia suggest that the Ukrainian could be on his way to
Highfield Road.
The
former Manchester Untied, Everton and Fiorentina player is now
aged 31. The prospects of a move south are more feasible for him
as he is currently behind Neil McCann and Jorg Albertz in the
pecking order.
Gordon
Strachan has had offers for both these players accepted and then
withdrawn. He said he is keen to sign someone before
Saturday’s game with Middlesbrough, but will not be stampeded
into getting the wrong person.
Coventry
are certainly facing a striking problem this weekend. With
Ysrael Zuniga off on international duty, Moustapha Hadji injured
and no replacements for Robbie Keane or Noel Whelan signed,
there is precious little striking cover.
Cedric
Roussel is certain to start, and it seems likely that
18-year-old Jay Bothroyd will be thrown in at the deep end.
John
Aloisi has begun to return to action after his long injury
lay-off, but isn’t yet match fit. Strachan might use him as he
is keen to develop Bothroyd.
Strachan
is also thought to be interested in Norwich City’s Craig
Bellamy, who is rated at £4 million, but suffered a cruciate
ligament injury last season.
He
is reported to be waiting until the middle of the season to make
a bid, but his hand might be forced by interest from other
Premiership clubs.
