Hadji To Miss Start Of Season
Coventry
City will be without their skipper Moustapha Hadji for the first
month of the season.
The
influential Moroccan midfielder has not recovered from a groin
strain suffered during a friendly.
His
loss will be a severe blow to the side that has failed to
replace Gary McAllister and Robbie Keane.
Hadji
said:
"I'm
very disappointed. I was really looking forward to starting
the season and now we have a lot of injury problems going into
the final week."
But
there is some better news on the injury front with respect to
the other short-term casualties.
Youssef
Chippo, David Thompson, Carlton Palmer and Marc Edworthy could
all be fit for the season’s curtain-raiser with Middlesbrough
on Saturday.
Stephen
Froggatt and Tomas Gustafsson are both out with long-term
injuries.
One
of Gordon Strachan’s targets, Jorg Albertz, scored two more
cracking goals this weekend to make a move from Rangers even
less likely.
Strachan
claimed that he had been offered the German goal machine by
chairman David Murray, but the deal collapsed after Albertz did
well in the Champions League qualifier.
Blackburn
striker Egil Ostenstad is thought to be closer to a move from
Ewood Park to Highfield Road, while Gordon Strachan says he has
his eye on a European player.
