Coventry
City winger Steve Froggatt has admitted that he had completely given up hope of ever
representing his country at full international level.
The 26-year-old made two England Under 21 Caps but was not promoted to the full squad
and believed his chance had gone.
He said:
"I gave up a long time ago to be honest, that's why this has come as such a huge
surprise to me.
"When I was at Wolves we failed to get promotion from Division One, so I didn't
even think I would get chance to play in the Premiership again, let alone to represent my
country.
"When I joined Coventry people were talking about the lack of left sided players
in the country but even then I took it as a huge joke really, it is a huge shock."
And the man who started his career at Aston Villa now believes he can go into the
England set-up with the sole aim of enjoying himself.
"I don't think anything is particularly expected of me by anyone and I'll go down
there next week to have fun and do my best."
