Coventry City
reserves go into tonights game clash with Tranmere Rovers at Highfield Road tonight
knowing that victory will secure them the Pontins League Division One title.
If the Sky Blues do win then they will go down in history as the last team to take the
title due to the decision to change the structure of the league next season.
Reserve team manager Trevor Peake is delighted that City are still in with a chance of
winning the title and is keeping his fingers crossed that his side take the silverware.
He said:
"We thought we had wasted our chance when we went to Middlesborough and lost that
game 4-3. It was probably a great game to watch if you were a neutral, but it didnt
do me any good.
"Then Boro drew their game at Port Vale which allows us to leap-frog over both
them and Oldham on goal difference if we win tonight.
"We want to go out on a winning note so lets hope we have got the players
and can produce the performance to do that.
"Its nice to win anything at any level, and if this is the last one of these
titles then so be it, perhaps we will get to keep the trophy forever!"
Peake paid particular tribute to some of the players who have helped the success of the
reserve side over the season, especially the clubs senior professionals.
"The attitude of the older players has been excellent because it is not easy to
get it right, but their attitude has been splendid.
"We have had Gary McAllister, Philippe Clement and other internationals so that
has been very pleasing for me, and we havent let many goals in because my old friend
Steve Ogrizovic has been there most of the time.
"There is nothing you can tell Oggy about how to play the game, he does so much
for the back four and having a player of that ability gives us an edge over other teams in
the league."
