Transfer
deadline day passed quietly at Highfield Road as Gordon Strachan prepared to send a team
out in a first team friendly at Dundee.
The City boss failed in his search to bring in a goalkeeper as cover for Magnus Hedman
and the injured Steve Ogrizovic, so teenager Chris Kirkland could find himself on the
bench against before the end of the season.
Strachan said:
"We did try to bring someone in today but his club would not allow him to join us.
We then had a chat to our goalkeeping coach Jim Blyth and decided that while Chris may not
have the experience, he has the ability and athleticism and he will be our cover."
Ogrizovic is suffering with a damaged shoulder and Hedman is away on international
duty, so City have a guest keeper from Dundee United in goal tonight.
Meanwhile Strachan dismissed reports that Gary Breen could be on his way to First
Division Watford. Hornets boss Graham Taylor is said to be ready to table a £1 million
bid but Strachan said he knew nothing of Watfords interest.
Breen was training with the Republic of Ireland squad today after their game with
Macedonia was called off because of the troubles in the region.
