SEP 01] COVENTRY CATHEDRAL NEWS
Final Curtain For Cathedral AV Show
This Saturday
will see the closure of Coventry Cathedral's long running,
award-winning audio visual show.
After
18 years and 5 months the award winning Spirit of Coventry audio
visual show will close.
The
show, housed in the Visitor Centre was opened on the 25 May 1983
- the 21st Anniversary of the Consecration. Since then it has
been seen by on average 15,000 adults and 16,500 school children
each year.
The
show which won an award in August 1983 at the Multi Image
Festival in Orlando is well worth a visit in its final few days
despite the passage of time and the advancement in technology.
It lasts 18 minutes and involves 9 projectors and 744 slides
together with a multitude of bulbs.
The
show is closing after consultation with the Fire Brigade as a
result of measures being taken following the fire in February of
this year.
Listers
Audi have kindly agreed to sponsor the preservation of the
existing audio visual show in a modern format. The slides will
be made into a video and extra footage added to bring the
Cathedral’s history up to date.
This
new show will be shown on a continuous loop system and will go
on sale in the Cathedral Shop once it is available.
The
Cathedral Bursar, Charles Leonard said:
"Thanks
to the generosity of Listers Audi we shall be able to
completely update our audio visual presentation and present it
in a flexible format. This will enable our powerful message to
reach out to new audiences."
