The
Provost will greet a delegation of Atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki at
the cathedral as part of their visit to Coventry today. They are on a mission to inform
the world about the reality of the after effects of the bomb through testimonies and
appeals. The delegation participated in the Hague Appeal for Peace Conference (May 11-15)
and is now visiting several cities in Britain.
Coventry is a major part of their visit, and they will see the
Reconciliation statue in the ruins of the cathedral, the partner of one in the
peace garden at Hiroshima. Coventry Cathedral has long pioneered reconciliation after the
Second World War, between the Japanese and the British.
The visitors will be given a tour around the cathedral before being received by the
Lord Mayor.
