Foot And Mouth Case
Found Near Nuneaton
The worst fears of
farmers in Warwickshire were confirmed this evening when a case of foot
and mouth disease was discovered at a farm near Nuneaton.
Government officials
moved in to seal off a farm in Fenny Drayton.
It is just over the
Leicestershire border, but only a few miles away from Nuneaton.
The discovery comes as
increasing efforts have been made by the authorities to try and stop the
disease getting into the county.
It has spread from the
north east of England to Devon and Essex, but now appears to be affecting
the Midlands.
All 80 sheep and 220
cattle on the unnamed farm will be slaughtered as a precaution.
The disease can be
transferred on the wind, and extra measures to try and prevent infection
spreading are likely to be taken.
