WARWICKSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL NEWS
Atherstone To Get
Fastest Links In The County
Work has started to
install fast new Internet links to help businesses in North
Warwickshire with a new computer suite at Atherstone library.
Direct communication
links to Birmingham are being installed at the library – one of 13
in the region taking part, and the only one in Warwickshire.
It means there will
be four computers with the fastest possible links, open for use by
business people and residents.
It is part of a new
service offering free, high quality information and advice to local
businesses, which has been paid for with funding by the European
Regional Development Fund.
Atherstone library
has appointed its own business information officer who will be on site
to answer queries from local businesses.
The project is part
of the West Midlands wide Inter-All initiative, which aims to improve
access to information and IT for small and medium sized businesses.
The project will
connect the 13 libraries across the region – most of the others are
in the Birmingham and Black Country area - allowing them to pool
expertise and provide an enhanced service to business users.
Liz Doney, Business
Information Officer, said:
“Whether people
want to find out the address of a business, contact details of a
professional body or need to know what the market for women’s
clothing is like in the UK, we are here to help?”
The business
information officer will be offering training on use of the Internet
for businesses.
Trevor Cornfoot,
executive manager of Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Partnerships,
said:
“The easy
availability of business information and Internet access in
Atherstone will be a significant benefit to strengthening and
diversifying local business and encouraging innovation, which are
key aims of the economic strategy for Coventry and Warwickshire.”
Adrian Litvinoff,
divisional manager for libraries and heritage in North Warwickshire,
said:
“This is another
example of the department bringing high quality services into North
Warwickshire for the benefit of residents, businesses and
visitors.”
