Cash Help For Flood RepairsFirst
indications from Central Government are that they will be contributing £85,000 towards
repairs to public buildings, parks and other assets in Warwick District. Damage to
the Jephson Gardens, St Nicholas Park paddling pool and York Bridge in the Pump Room
Gardens are amongst the items on the list for which Government have agreed cash help.
The Chief Executive of Warwick District Council, Jamie
Barrett, said:
"I am pleased that the Government have made a
contribution to the repairs and clean-up. The money will go some way towards
covering the costs which will otherwise fall upon the Council and its taxpayers."
The Council have estimated its total bill to be £565,000.
This includes about £169,000 which is covered by insurances, £75,000 which is
loss of income at the pools and sports halls, £95,000 is to be spent on Council tenanted
property and in the long term it is felt that £74,000 may be needed to be spent on the
Town Hall because of subsidence.
Only certain costs would be considered by the Government's,
"Bellwin" Scheme, and the Council were claiming about £125,000
