Bungee Jumping Santa To Show The Light
Stars
of Leamington’s Christmas panto are getting ready to turn on
the town’s Christmas lights in a seven-hour marathon of fun
this weekend.
Final
preparations are under way for singing, dancing and competitions
in parade and Warwick Street between the day of activities on
Sunday between 10.30am and 6pm.
Mark
Rattray and Eve Steele stars of the Royal Spa Centre's 'Dick
Whittington will be appearing , with Mark singing live on stage
before pressing the button.
Father
Christmas is going to bungee jump into view to signal the moment
when the illuminations will sparkle into action.
Town
Centre Manager Ian Coker said:
"We
started planning the event in February so the team is
delighted that everything is coming together so well. However
we will all breath a huge sigh of relief when it is over.
“We
will sit down that evening and over a drink assess the success
of this year's event and then start planning for next
year."
He
said the firms whose financial backing enabled the event to
happen will be published to
thank them for their efforts.
Mr
Coker said:
"These
events do not just happen by chance. I am very grateful to all
those who have helped organise the day's activities and to
those who will be taking an active part.
“The
Town Centre Management Initiative is grateful to those new
sponsors for this year and the continued support of other
organisations over many years.
“The
full list of those who are supporting the lights is being
published this year so people can see for themselves which
businesses in the town do get involved and those who chose not
to."
Thousands
of Sunday shoppers are expected to join in the festivities when
the shops close at 5pm. The lights will be turned on from a
stage in Warwick Street hosted by Mercia FM.
