[14 JAN 99] WARWICK
DISTRICT COUNCIL PRESS RELEASE
Improving Abbey End, KenilworthThe
beginning of 1999 sees the unveiling of proposed plans to improve Abbey End Kenilworth.
Local people and businesses, the Chamber of Trade and the Town Council held meetings
with Council officers or sent comments in October last year. At the time the opportunity
was given for problems to be identified, possible solutions put forward and to try to
establish some priorities. That information has been used to help draw up more detailed
plans.
The scheme now on display at the Kenilworth Connection in Abbey End, is being shown for
comment. The people of Kenilworth and those who do business in the town are encouraged to
come to see the display and make their views known. The exhibition will open to the public
and have staff in attendance from 9.30 am to 12.30pm on Saturday 16 January 1999 and from
1pm to 7pm on 18 January 1999. The exhibition will, thereafter, remain on display in the
Kenilworth connection during its normal opening hours until 5 February 1999.
The scheme has a number of elements:
- Creation of a large space unit at the northern end of the scheme, replacing 4 current
but smaller retail units and an office;
- Creation of a central walkway from the scheme to the car park to the rear;
- Options for redevelopment at the southern end of the scheme, including closing off the
current walkway through the scheme;
- Improvements to the open space to the front;
- Landscaping of the car park to the rear; and
- Improvements to the roundabout at Abbey End.
The consultation period lasts until 5 February 1999. Comments should be addressed to
Chris Elliott, Commissioning Director, Warwick District Council, Regent Square House,
Regent Street, Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire CV32 4Naor handed into the Kenilworth
Connection.
It is anticipated that Warwick District Councils Strategy Committee will consider
the commetns and make a decision on the final scheme on 16 February 1999.
