NOV 98] STRATFORD ON AVON TOWN COUNCIL PRESS RELEASE
Public Show For Homes PlanA proposed
housing scheme by Wilcon Homes on the Paddock Lane site next to Stratford's racecourse,
will be on show next Saturday, 5 December. Wilcon propose to build around 150 homes on the
11 acre site, which is being reclaimed after years of use as a rubbish tip.
The public presentation will allow residents the
opportunity to see a model of the development in detail and raise any concerns with the
developers. 450 households around the site have each been notified through a newsletter of
the presentation, which will be in the Parish Hall in Old Town, between 10.00am and
12.00noon, Saturday 5 December.
Stratford District Council who presently own the land, has
spent £3.4m on removing 150,000 tonnes of contaminated domestic waste from the site, and
is about to complete the operation to refill it with clean material. The clearance
operation was carried out by AIG Remediation Ltd, under the supervision of AIG Consultants
Ltd who managed the project on behalf of the Council.
Residents in the area are warned that, inevitably, there
could be some disturbance during the three year construction period, although Wilcon, who
will own the site once works house building starts, have advised that any disturbance will
be kept to a minimum.
The proposed development is subject to planning permission
by the Council's Avon Area Planning Committee, where it is due to be considered sometime
early next year.
Notes
In February of this year, Northampton-based Wilcon Homes
(Midlands) Ltd agreed to pay the Council £5.28m for the reclaimed site, after outbidding
two rival house builders, including Wimpey Homes whose original bid of £3.25m initially
agreed by the Council through an open tendering process, was challenged by Prowting Homes
who offered £4.02m.
