MAR 01] STRATFORD ON AVON DISTRICT COUNCIL NEWS
Jury Out On Future Of Cattle Market
People
being asked their views on the future of the cattle market in the
centre of Stratford ahead of a major redevelopment scheme.
A
draft development brief has already been prepared by the council
planning department to highlights future uses of the site in
Alcester Road.
It
is allowing the land to be used for new offices and houses or by
commercial leisure companies.
Stratford-on-Avon
District Council has prepared the development brief in
partnership with the current owners of the cattle market site, as
well as Warwickshire County Council, Rail Property Board, Central
Trains, the Warwickshire NHS Trust, and Birmingham Railway Museum.
Cllr
Chris Williams, the district council's chairman of planning and
regulation, said:
"It
is good news that the redevelopment of the cattle market site
has taken a significant and positive step forward.
"The
development brief will set the principles against which any
planning application for the site will be considered.
“This
development provides for new offices to create jobs and much
needed housing for local people.
"Situated
next to the railway station, this site provides for far better
co-ordination between buses and trains enabling a greater use of
public transport.
“With
this mind, it is essential that the views of the public are
taken into account before deciding the final version of the
development brief."
The
development brief will be published for public consultation for a
six-week period running until 16 April.
It
is anticipated that it will be adopted by the council in June this
year, after the views of the public have been fully taken into
account.
Anyone
wishing to see a copy of the draft proposals or to make any
comments should contact Ernest Amoako, planner, at the district
council on 01789 260399.
