AUG 99] STRATFORD ON AVON DISTRICT COUNCIL PRESS RELEASE
National Association of Civic OfficersThe first ever National Association for people working for Mayors
and other Civic Heads throughout the country is being launched later this summer. Pauline
Day, Chairman's secretary at Stratford District Council is a member of the Executive
Committee of the Association.
The Association, which intends to be forward looking rather
than rooted wholly in tradition, will promote best practice in civic offices and develop
the professionalism of all levels of staff. The Association is also intent on improving
the professional services to Mayors and Chairmen of Councils in the UK and on improving
training for staff.
Already, two national conferences for civic officers have
been held and the new Association seeks to provide training and develop opportunities
including formal qualifications, currently there are no specific training courses for
civic officers.
"I am delighted to be part of this Association and I
have already benefited from meeting people working for Civic Heads," said Pauline
Day, Chairman's secretary at Stratford District Council.
"My role within the District Council is fairly unique
and it is useful to be able to compare my responsibilities with people doing a similar
job. Other areas where the Association will be able to help include issues relating to
best value, training and improving the civic officer network for exchange of
information."
