Private Guards For Rugby Tower BlocksRugby
Council is to hire private security guards to patrol two tower blocks in the town. The
guards are part of a £184,000 crime prevention scheme to make residents living in Biart
Place, near Rugby town centre, feel safe and stop vandalism.
Councillors have agreed to pay for the guards who will man
Biart Place's two tower blocks, Green Court and Fairway Court, 24 hours a day. The guards
will operate from a reception near the flats. They will monitor close-circuit television
cameras and check everyone who comes to the flats. They will only be allowed access once
the guards have rung through to residents to get permission to let people in.
A Rugby Council spokesman said:
''At the moment anyone can get into the flats by just
hanging around and waiting for someone to open the door. And that is where problems start,
because once inside these people cause a lot of damage. This scheme will eliminate this
problem.''
