Furnace Stoked To Save Energy
Hundreds
of houses in Nuneaton and Bedworth are to be fitted with cavity walls
as part of an energy-saving scheme.
Nuneaton
and Bedworth Borough Council, working in association with EAGA
Services, are carrying out a scheme of energy saving measures in
Furnace Fields.
The
scheme is centred on Furnace Road and includes 370 houses with cavity
walls. The area covered by the project is a mix of council-owned and
private housing.
In
addition to the Furnace Fields scheme, the council's housing committee
has also agreed to make a further £55,000 available to carry out
similar works in other parts of the borough.
The
aim is to help cut fuel bills, keep houses warmer and improve energy
efficiency in as many houses as possible.
Ageing
boilers with are also to be replaced with new energy efficient models
at four of the council's sheltered housing schemes.
Cllr
Sheila Hancox, chair of the housing committee, said:
"The
council has a duty to encourage savings in energy consumption in all
homes in the borough and these schemes are a major contribution
towards that aim.
“Further
initiatives are planned across the borough and the council is
particularly keen to identify people who are having difficulty in
meeting with fuel bills.
“There
is a direct link between poor health and cold homes and it is our
intention to ensure that homes in the borough are properly
insulated.
“For
owner/occupiers receiving benefits, grants to insulate homes are
available for people over 60, households who have a child under the
age of 16 or where a disability premium is paid.
“I
would urge residents of the borough receiving benefits who may
qualify for a grant to telephone Housing Services on 024 7637 6442
for advice."
