Life In Edwardian Bedworth Slides Into View
An
adolescent insight into Edwardian Bedworth will be given next week at
a slide show centring on George Eliot’s great niece Alison Evans.
Similar
in vein to the popular 'Diary of an Edwardian Lady', the show on 14
November is dedicated to her journals.
The
daughter of Canon Evans, rector at Bedworth for 50 years, Alison kept
journals from 1904 until 1918.
The
early ones are written with a naive adolescent insight into day-to-day
life in Bedworth. The later one shows Alison as wife of a chaplain
serving in France.
John
Burton, who will be presenting the slide show, said:
"Alison
is brought to life by her journals and it gives me great pleasure to
present them to local people who perhaps in their own lifetime, have
listened to stories about events during the early part of the 1900s.
“She
is sensitive, humorous and illuminating in her written word and
anyone watching the show will leave with an inner warmth from this
unique insight."
The
slide show at 7.30pm in the Council Chamber, Town Hall, Nuneaton.
Tickets cost £2 and anyone interested should contact Rose Selwyn at
the Town Hall or ring 024 7637 6490.
Tickets
are also available from Nuneaton Library and on the door on the night.
