[10
OCT 00] NUNEATON & BEDWORTH BOROUGH COUNCIL NEWS
Have A Comfy Look At George Eliot Country
Residents
and tourists are being given the chance to take a look at the
different sights of George Eliot country in comfort in Nuneaton next
week.
Portraits
of the famous writer, her friends and family will feature in the
hour-long slide show in the plush surrounds of the council chamber on
19 October.
There
will also be shots of the buildings and areas of Nuneaton and Bedworth
that she would have known, as well as pictures of what the public can
see today.
George
Eliot, who lived at Griff House for the first 21 years of her life
when known as Mary Ann Evans, is a major tourist attraction to the
area, bringing visitors from as far as Japan and America to the
borough.
But
Tourism Officer Rose Selwyn said the show was also a chance for local
people to find out more about the area they live in.
She
said:
“It’s
the story of George Eliot, her life and a tour around George Eliot
country and it can be an insight for people who live locally who may
not know about the history of the area.”
Tickets
for the event cost £2 and are available from Rose Selwyn at the Town
Hall, Nuneaton, on 024 7637 6490. They can be bought on the door. More
