Two Chances To Have Your Say In North Warks
Thousands
of people in North Warwickshire could lose their right to vote, while
thousands more are being asked for their views on council-run services
in the borough.
More
than 5,000 electoral registration forms have not been returned to
North Warwickshire Borough Council since they were distributed in
August.
If
they are not returned by 10 October, residents in these houses could
be excluded from the electoral register and miss out on their right to
vote.
David
Harris, Principal Administrator for Electoral Services said:
"It's
vital that people take a bit of time to complete the forms, if they
want to be eligible to vote at elections.
“Next
year is particularly important with County Council elections in May
and the real possibility of a general election. If your name's not
on the register, you simply will not be able to vote! "
Any
queries about electoral registration forms can be forwarded to Amanda
Tonks at North Warwickshire Borough Council on 01827 719221
Meanwhile
3,500 people in North Warwickshire will receive a questionnaire this
week, asking for their views on services provided by the Borough
Council.
Topics
covered in the questionnaire include rubbish collection; street
cleaning; recycling facilities; parks and open spaces, and sports and
leisure facilities.
John
Bird, Borough Personnel and Policy Officer, said:
"Consultation
with local communities is an important part of 'Best Value' - which
is about providing cost effective and efficient services.
“We
need to know what local people think about our services, so we can
improve them for the future. So, if people do get one of our
questionnaires through the post, we'd like them to take a few
minutes to fill it in. "
He
added that for every questionnaire returned, the Borough Council will
make a donation to the Mayor's chosen charity for the year, and BMG
consultants in Birmingham, who will be analysing the findings, have
offered to match the amount raised.
The
closing date for the return of the questionnaires is Friday 20
October, so that the results can be forwarded to the Department of the
Environment, Transport and the Regions.
A
report on the findings is expected by the end of the year.
