Local Conservative MEP Philip Bushill-Matthews
has been working with Councillor Graham Windybank (Conservative, Kenilworth Stoneleigh) on
the issue of aircraft noise at Coventry Airport.
Speaking from the European Parliament in Brussels today, Mr
Bushill-Matthews said:
"Since Graham raised this with me, in the context of EU
Regulations, I have had conversations with both Parcelforce and the Airport and am very
encouraged.
"Within the next few days, 90% of the freight movements are being
transferred across the airport to the South Apron, away from residents on the north side.
This will be completed by this coming Monday 3 April, when the new Parcelforce Eurohub
Terminal should be fully open".
"This is great news for local residents and there may be more to
come. Airport Director Peter Jackson has confirmed to me that studies of different
take-off and landing procedures are well in hand, and this could reduce noise levels even
further".
