Smokers
can double their chances to quit this year as the City Council and Health Promotions
Service combine their services to offer help and support during two events on National No
Smoking Day today.
Coventry City Councils Environmental Health student, Joy Adams is calling on
smokers to stop by Cathedral Lane Shopping Centre today when she will be handing out free
Quit Kits to anyone who wants to either stop smoking themselves or has a
friend or relative who wants to quit.
The stall, which is based in the cathedral Lanes Shopping Centre will be open from 9am
2pm. It will give people a chance to get some free advice and information about
smoking and all its associated health risks and the benefits of quitting. Free balloons
and stickers will also be available for people visiting the stall.
Lucky smokers will also get a chance to win a way to quit smoking. The stall is running
a competition with prizes such as free aromatherapy, reflexology and gym sessions.
A Health Check Day is also being run jointly by the Council and Health Promotions
Service at the Bangladesh Centre in George Eliot Road, Foleshill.
The Quit and Get Fit session which runs from 11am 2pm includes a
free health check and stalls on healthy eating, aromatherapy, chewing tobacco in Psam and
advice on quitting.
