In its recent
OFSTED inspection, Caludon Castle Secondary School was shown to be excellent in some areas
and to offer good value for money.
The school has improved since its last inspection in 1995 with the quality of
teaching improving as well as the standards of attainments of the pupils. Teaching is now
satisfactory in almost all lessons and excellent or very
good in a third of lessons. Cultural development has also improved, and the
programme of personal and social education has been improved and is now valued by pupils.
The inspectors reported that the school is a model of financial planning and control
and use of resources.
Parents and pupils were keen to be involved in the inspection, and an extremely high
number of parents (768) filled in questionnaires giving their opinion on how well they
thought the school was doing.
Chair of Governors, Councillor Don Ewett, is pleased at the outcome of Caludon
Castles OFSTED Inspection,
"Everyone involved with the school governors, staff, pupils and parents
should feel proud of this report. One of the things that came out very strongly
during the inspection was that pupils enjoy attending Caludon Castle. Both parents and
pupils fell a part of the school, which was shown in the time and effort they took to make
their views known during the inspection."
The inspection team found that pupils at Caludon Castle have a good attitude to
learning and behave well. They also found that pupils with special educational needs are
well integrated and also have a good attitude to learning. Relationships were found to be
very good between the pupils themselves, and between pupils and teachers. Pupils
personal development is good, including those with special educational needs.
The school provides a secure and supportive environment and the pupils moral
development is good and there are clear procedures in place to promote discipline and good
behaviour.
An action plan to further improve the school is now being put in place:
- Improve information and communication technology at Key stages 3 and 4
- Improve arrangements for the spiritual development of pupils
- Improve the quality and use of accommodation
