City Council is planning changes to the roles and responsibilities of its chief officers
as part of its modernisation programme.
Proposals under consideration would replace the current team of chief executive and
nine chief officer posts, with a strategic management team. This team would comprise the
chief executive and six strategic directors, supported by the executive director
(corporate planning) and the city secretary.
Chief executive Iain Roxburgh said:
"Strategic directors will have three types of responsibility. They will each lead
on a series of cross-cutting issues, including Community Plan priorities. They will have
responsibility to hold managers to account for the delivery of a range of services, and
they will each have responsibility to develop services in one of six areas of the city,
ensuring that services are co-ordinated.
"Strategic director posts are to be filled in accordance with current collective
agreements, and the proposals do include the early appointment o a new strategic director
with responsibility for social services. The plans will see the team working on the
proposed changes, and has indicated that if requested by the council he will leave the
councils employment to facilitate the new management structure."
