Coventry City Council are set to launch a new guide for
homeworkers. Packed with advice and information the new booklet covers some of the key
issues facing homeworkers, including what kind of work is on offer, how to recognise
scams, tips on how to avoid being ripped off and what to do if things go wrong.
Written by the City Councils Home Working and Womens Employment Officer,
the 16 page booklet called A Guide to Looking for Work to do at Home is a
must read for anyone involved in, or planning to get involved in, any sort of
homeworking.
People from all backgrounds look for homeworking for some it is the last resort,
for others it fells as if its the only choice that they have and although there are
genuine jobs working at home many are bogus or involve some sort of up front payment from
the homeworker.
Councillor Nick Nolan Chair of the Economic Regeneration Policy Team said,
"Coventry is one of only half a dozen councils across the country who employ a
homeworking officer and we do so because we want to prevent the most vulnerable in our
society from losing money or being ripped off. In recent years there has been a steady
increase in the number of advertisements offering easy money for homeworking
but there is no such thing as easy money and I would urge anyone who is thinking of
working at home to do their homework first to read this excellent new guide and
talk to our homeworking officer before they do anything."
The Lord Mayor of Coventry Councillor Mrs Maggie Rosher will officially launch the new
guide on Tuesday 8 December at 10.30am at the TechnoCentre, Puma Way.
