Four Coventry librarians will
next week be presented with medals by HRH the Princess Royal in honour of their work.
The four will travel to London on Tuesday 8 December to receive the medals as part of
The Library Associations 100th anniversary.
The librarians are: Linda Monk, team librarian at Coventry Central Library; Colin
Scott, assistant city librarian at Coventry Central Library; Doreen Walker, branch manager
at Stoke Library and Mehru Fitter, senior librarian in Multicultural Services for the
city.
Councillor Gillian Darby, Chair of Coventry City Councils Arts and Culture Policy
Team, said:
"Coventry people are well aware of the high standard of service provided by all
our library staff. This national recognition of the contribution made by four employees is
a tribute to the huge efforts made by themselves and their colleagues, to making out
libraries truly welcoming and accessible to all local people."
The Library Association was founded on 5 October, 1877 and granted a Royal Charter on
17 February, 1898. As part of the Associations centenary year medals are being
