Councillors are set to give the
go ahead to a £100,000 pot of money being made available to help local community
organisations celebrate the Millennium.
The "Community Chest" has been set up by the City Council specifically to
support Coventry People celebrate this unique occasion, with £50,000 available in
1999/2000 and a further £50,000 in 2000/2001.
Councillor Christine Porch, chair of the Councils Events Policy Team said:
"We are all looking forward to the Millennium and I am sure Coventry People will
be looking to celebrate the event in their own unique way. Community organisations should
be looking to get together now to think about how they would like to mark the occasion.
"We are planning together an information pack which will provide details on how to
apply for a share of the Community Chest money and these will be available early in the
new year."
Applications for Community Chest support in the year 1999/2000 must be received between
1 February 1999 to 30 April 1999.
The information packs, available early in the new year, will include details on how to
apply, the criteria for applications, and application forms. Anybody wanting to register
for a copy of the information pack once they become available can call Carl Bainbridge on
01203 832021.
