CITY COUNCIL PRESS RELEASE
Taxi Drivers Support Anti Drink
Drive CampaignCoventrys taxi drivers
are to publicly back the Citys Blue Ribbon Anti Drink drive Campaign this year.
He drivers will be sporting blue ribbons from Monday as a reminder to the citys
partygoers to plan ahead and not to drink and drive.
Councillor Gordon Wright of the Environment and Transport Policy Team and spokesperson
on road safety issues is pleased with the extra support for the Blue Ribbon Campaign
across the city. He said today:
"The Blue Ribbon will have an even higher profile in Coventry this year. Many new
shops, pubs and organisations have joined forces with us to reinforce the dont
drink and drive message and the ribbons will be readily available. I encourage
everyone to wear this symbol of personal commitment to the campaign."
Jane Leach, Manager of the Licensing Office for Taxis and private hire vehicles said:
"We are delighted to play our part in supporting the Blue Ribbon campaign. The new
national TV advert shows the reality of a drink drive accident and this horrific end to an
evening out brings home a timely message to us all."
For the last five years thousands of blue ribbons have been worn local people who feel
strongly about the drink drive issue.
