Coventry people are being urged to
make comments on the City Councils proposals dor developing the city into the new
millennium.
The newly published Coventry Development Plan which guides the development
of land in the city, outlines future transport strategies and describes environmental
proposals up to the year 2011, is now available for people to look as in all Coventry
libraries and Council receptions.
Councillor Sheila Collins, Chair of the Planning Policy Team, encourages everyone
living or working in the city to look at the plan and make comments:
"The Coventry Development Plan is one of the most important documents the City
Council produces and between now and 16 December we are asking people to read it and its
details proposals and tell us what they are for and against. I encourage everyone to get
involved and have their say on Coventrys future. In this way, between us, we can
truly plan a city for the 21st century reflecting the needs of the whole
Coventry community."
Important points from the Plan include a major switch from new roads to the promotion
of public transport, cycling and walking, sites for 8,300 new homes, new Coventry Nature
Conservation sites and strategic regeneration sites at Coventry Colliery, Foleshill
Gasworks and the Phoenix initiative in the city centre.
Displays showing the impact of the Coventry Development Plan will be exhibited across
the city and a special web site has been set up on wwww.cwn.org.uk
Copies of the Plan are available from 5 November at a charge of £25. Anyone wishing to
make comments or ask questions can contact Niall McChesney on 01203 831312 or talk to
their Ward Councillors. The deadline for comments is 16 December.
