Following the recent spell of
wet weather, Coventry Leisure Services Department are sorry to announce the cancellation
of Coombe Country Park’s Firework Extravaganza, which was due to take place this
Saturday – 7 November 1998.
After inspecting the events field and car parks, the decision to cancel the event has
had to be taken due to the exceptionally wet weather conditions. Hopefully by making this
decision early customers will have the chance to make alternative arrangements.
A full refund will be given on all tickets purchased. This may be obtained by calling,
in person, with tickets, at the following venues before Wednesday 18 November 1998:
Alternatively please apply, in writing, with your name and address, enclosing tickets
to: Bonfire Event, Coombe Country Park, Binley, Coventry, CV3 2AB.
Councillor George Duggins, Co-ordinator of the Education and Cultural Affairs Policy
Co-ordinating Committee said:
"We are very disappointed to have to announce the cancellation of this major event
at Coombe Country Park. This is one of the largest firework events in the city and, as
such, we have to consider the personal health and safety of all. The rain has severely
affected the event areas and conditions underfoot are most hazardous, therefore we would
be unable to guarantee a quality event. Both September and October have been extremely wet
and I am sure everyone will appreciate why we have had to make this decision."
