November 4 has been designated National Home Meals Day, and Cllr
Maggie Rosher, the Lord Mayor of Coventry, will personally deliver a meal to Miss Mabel
Hucker, aged 94, who has been receiving meals at home for 8 years.
The meal will consist of roast beef, yorkshire pud, parsnips and mixed veg. with
madeira sponge and custard to follow. This is just a taster of 650 meals
provided daily by the Home Meals Service, which is part of the Social Services Department
of Coventry City Council.
Cllr Rosher said
"What a marvellous facility at a reasonable price for people who would find it
difficult to do it for themselves. This is just another example of a caring
community."
All the meals are hot and nutritionally designed to provide the necessary calories,
fibre, protein, minerals and vitamins needed for elderly people, and are delivered between
11.00am and 2.00pm. Dietary requirements and Cultural preferences can be catered for and
all for only £1.60.
