[08 SEP 98] COVENTRY
CITY COUNCIL PRESS RELEASE
Risk Awareness Week -
For City Council EmployeesThe City
Council's Risk Management Team will be organising a unique Risk Awareness Week for all
Council employees from the 2 - 6 November 1998. The purpose of the week is to highlight,
to all staff, the need for ownership of and responsibility for their own risks, as well as
those that could threaten the organisation.
It will be opened in St Mary's Hall on the first day with
an address by Diana Lamplugh, from the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, on "Personal
Safety". Other subjects will cover work hazards, crime and fire prevention, and
defensive driving.
Councillor Bob Waugh, member of the finance policy team,
said:
"This is another good initiative from a group of
caring employees determined to protect the council's human and physical resources from the
risks that face all of us, be it at work, at home or at play.
"By reducing the risk of injury or damage - more
resources will be available to enable the council to achieve its objectives for the city
and prove to local taxpayers that we do mean business and are serious about value for
money."
The Risk Management Team of the city council are very aware
that in the public and private sector, unidentified risks tend to be unmanaged. The week's
programme is being co-ordinated to emphasise the importance of controlling all risks that
could affect the council's ability to achieve its objectives, in the knowledge that
success will minimise costs and strengthen the council's value-for-money strategies which
will benefit Coventry and its citizens.
