[19 AUG 98] COVENTRY
CITY COUNCIL PRESS RELEASE
Chance To Learn PunjabiPunjabi was never easier to learn according to the organisers of a
new evening course at Coundon Court School and Community College.
"People can converse in basic Punjabi in a very short
time using this course", said Adult and Family Education Worker Lynne Amery from the
City Council's North West Community Education Area Office.
Councillor Kevin Maton, Chair of the City Council's
Training Policy Team said:
"The course is open to all adults with an interest in
Punjabi, and is likely to appeal to people who need to converse with clients, particularly
those in the caring and public sectors, as well as those with plans to visit northern
India or Pakistan
"I welcome this opportunity for people to learn and
communicate in what is the first language for many living in our City."
Lynne Amery added:
"The course offers an Open College (OCN) certificate
but there are no exams so it is ideal for people who are too busy to follow an academic
course, but who want to communicate with Punjabi speakers."
NOTES:
Starting on 21 September, the one-year course will take
place on Monday evenings. It is free for people on Job Seeker's Allowance and other
means tested benefits, and costs £60 for other people.
People can enrol by telephoning Coundon Court School and
Community College on 01203 337555.
