Plans for a new railway
station at Foleshill were due to come a step closer today.
Coventry City Councils Environment and Transportation Policy Team discussed the
feasibility of a new station on the Coventry to Nuneaton line and was expected to push on
with the plan.
A study commissioned by Warwickshire County Council, Coventry City Council and Centro
found that journey times between Coventry and Nuneaton would not be increased by a new
station.
Foleshill has been recommended as the site and any new station is likely to be tied in
with the Arena 2000 project which is currently be assessed by the government.
The council is now wants locations to be assessed for passenger demand and engineering
feasibility, and for Railtrack and Central Trains to look into the commercial side of any
development.
Railtrack are already proposing to relay eight of the 20 miles of track along the route
and a further 1425 yards of track will need relaying for the Sprinter trains to reach the
required speed of 60 miles-an-hour.
