Centro Object To Millennium Scheme

Centro, the West Midland Transport Authority, is protesting that its objections to the Phoenix Initiative, Coventry City Council's flagship millennium scheme, are being by-passed.

Transport heads say the city centre will become a no-go area for their buses.

Pool Meadow Bus Station, CoventryThey claim the City Council's proposals will restrict access to Pool Meadow Bus Station and therefore increase journey times because buses will have to be re-routed. Centro also say that the plans will affect those passengers changing from local to national bus routes and affect the route of the proposed City Centre People Mover which will operate between Pool Meadow and the railway station.

Centro invested about £100,000 on bus priority measures in Hales Street and Corporation Street and say some of this investment is at risk under the council plans.

They say that despite assurances that their objections would be taken on board, they have been ignored in the latest Phoenix Initiative plans and they have decided to endorse their continuing objection to the scheme.
