Councillor Stands Down After Illness
A
Coventry councillor has announced that he is resigning his seat
after a lengthy illness.
Cllr
Roy Barker will stand down from Cheylesmore ward with immediate
effect.
His
resignation comes after a prolonged period of ill health that has
prevented him from carrying out his duties as a councillor. He has
served on the city council for nine years.
Nick
Nolan, leader of the council said:
"I
am sure that all of my colleagues on the city council will join
me in wishing Roy well for the future.
“Roy
was a committed and dedicated representative of his city and his
community. He got on with the job in a quiet and efficient
way."
Ward
councillor Frank Carter said:
"Roy
has been a close friend and colleague and I am sorry that he has
had to call it a day.
“He
has worked tirelessly for the local community since he was first
elected and I hope that he is now able to concentrate on
rebuilding his health."
