Major
Road Into Coventry Faces Big Delays
Long
delays are expected for cars heading in and out of Coventry city
centre from next week, when work starts on one of the busiest
commuter roads.
Work
will next Monday at the junction of Holyhead Road and Barras Lane
to install disabled facilities at the traffic lights.
The
upgrading work to help pedestrians will include call buttons
within the central reserve area, dropped kerbs throughout the
junction, along with tactile paving and tactile buttons to help
disabled people.
Temporary
traffic signals will be in use at this junction during the work,
which is expected to last three weeks.
And
a diversion route around the affected area will be introduced.
The
left turn from Holyhead Road into Barras Lane heading into the
city centre will be banned.
Instead,
traffic will be diverted to the roundabout island of Holyhead Road
and the Ring Road, where it will turn a near complete circle and
go back along the Holyhead Road, to turn right.
A
Coventry City Council spokesperson said:
“Holyhead
Road is a major arterial route into the city, therefore long
delays are expected and drivers are advised to find an
alternative route where possible.”
“The
city council apologises for the inconvenience caused by the
works, which are being supervised by Babtie Consulting
Engineers, on behalf of the council.”
