A
parade to remember Coventry’s war dead will be held on Sunday
before a commemoration service at the Memorial Park.
Coventry’s
Lord Mayor, Cllr Sheila Collins, will join representatives of
different churches and servicemen in the city for the walk on
Sunday. She is urging as many people as possible to come along to
the service which follows it.
The
parade will start in Spencer Avenue, Earlsdon at 10.30am and lead
to the park.
The
memorial service will be held at 10.55am, conducted by the Bishop
of Warwick, Rt Rev Anthony Priddis.
He
will be supported by the Roman Catholic Dean, the Rev Fr Robert
Wright and the President of Coventry free Federal Church Council,
Derek Noel.
There
will also be a service conducted by Rev Tony Burford, curate at
Holy Trinity Church at the Communal Grave at London Road Cemetery
at 3pm.
Cllr
Collins, who hopes to go to both services, said;
“I
hope many local people will join us on Sunday, as we pay tribute
to those who have given their lives in the service of our
country.
“It
is special time to honour their memory and to remember that
without their sacrifice we would not have the freedom we enjoy
today.”
