Coventry’s Guy Fawkes night celebrations have taken a knock with the cancellation of the Firework Frenzy at Coombe Country Park.

City council officials decided to pull the plug on the event following a recent glut of bad weather.

They said the event and car parking area were too wet to allow the display to go ahead without there being at risk to public safety.

Officers said that even if the weather improved it would still be too wet underfoot on Saturday, when the event was due to take place.

They said that the early decision had been taken to give people a chance to make alternative arrangements.
