Tea and coffee are being
offered to members of the public in a bid to lure them to Coventry
City Council’s first ever cabinet meeting.
New council leader Nick Nolan
said he is determined to involve the public more in the
decision-making process.
At the first meeting, members
of the new cabinet will outline their hopes for the year ahead and
explain their individual roles, responsibilities and priorities.
Eight councillors from the
ruling Labour group are on the cabinet, which has been introduced
because of government legislation forcing change to the political
system in local authorities.
Each member of the cabinet has
taken responsibility for a specific area and have pledged to listen to
and work more closely with local people.
Cllr Nolan said:
“We
see this meeting as an important opportunity to let the public know
who their cabinet representatives are and what responsibilities they
have.
“We have a major task
ahead and are keen to increase the trust and support of local
people.
“It’s an enormous
privilege to be council leader meeting with cabinet colleagues for
this historical event, and I hope that the public are able to come
along.”
As part of the meeting, which
will be held in St Mary’s Guild Hall on Wednesday at 1.30pm, each
cabinet member will also answer questions from the public.
