Silver screens in Coventry
could be showing movies around the clock after a cinema won permission
to open 24 hours.
The Showcase cinema in Gielgud
Way, Walsgrave has been given a licence to show films continuously.
The application was made after
a successful experiment last year when Star Wars: the Phantom menace
was released.
Bosses at the cinema put extra
showings on round-the-clock to cope with demand for the eagerly
awaited film.
The city council’s Licensing
Panel was told that the 24-hour facility would only be used to cope
with a similar demand in the future.
Councillors agreed to allow
the new licence, but on the recommendation of the police, limited it
to six months in the first instance, in case there were any problems.
